Gediminas Castle Tower

Iconic symbol of Vilnius atop Gediminas Hill – the highest point of the Old Town offering a complete panorama of the capital.

Gediminas Castle Tower is the western tower of the Upper Castle, standing atop the 48-meter Gediminas Hill. It is one of the most recognizable symbols of Lithuania – the Lithuanian tricolor flag flies permanently on top of the tower. The first wooden castle was built here in the early 14th century during the reign of Grand Duke Gediminas. The current brick tower dates to the 15th century. Inside the tower, an exhibition tells the story of the Vilnius castles. The upper platform offers an extraordinary panorama of Vilnius Old Town, the Neris River, and surrounding hills. The tower is accessible on foot or by funicular.
