Smilgiai Manor
Remains of an abandoned 19th-century manor in the Panevezys district, evoking the grandeur of former manor culture. The ruins and overgrown park create a melancholic yet appealing atmosphere.
Smilgiai Manor consists of the remains of a 19th-century manor complex in the Panevezys district. The manor was owned by a local noble family that shaped a typical Aukstaitija manor ensemble of the period with a manor house, outbuildings, and a park. During World War II and the Soviet era, the manor was nationalized, the buildings were used for agricultural purposes and gradually deteriorated. Today, the walls of the manor house, fragments of some utility buildings, and an overgrown park with old trees remain. Although the manor is abandoned, its ruins attract photographers, urban exploration enthusiasts, and researchers of manor culture. Smilgiai Manor is a typical example of the fate experienced by many Lithuanian manors in the 20th century.
