Medvėgalis Hillfort

The highest hillfort in Samogitia – a sacred Samogitian site offering views across the entire Samogitian Lowland.

Medvėgalis Hillfort is the highest point in Samogitia (234.6 m above sea level). It was one of the most sacred ancient Samogitian sites – an eternal fire burned here and sacrifices were made to the gods. In the 14th century, the Teutonic Order repeatedly tried to capture Medvėgalis, but the Samogitians stubbornly defended this sanctuary. On a clear day, the summit offers views of dozens of kilometers in all directions. The hillfort is well-adapted for visitors with stairs, information stands, and a viewing platform.
