The presumed castle of Duke Utenis – one of the largest hillforts in eastern Aukštaitija.
Narkūnai Hillfort is one of the largest and most important hillforts in the Utena district. According to legend, it was the castle of Duke Utenis, from whom the city of Utena got its name. The hillfort stands on a tall hill offering views of the surrounding plain. Archaeological research found 1st millennium settlement remains and traces of defensive fortifications. The hillfort is easily accessible and popular among tourists and locals. Information stands are located nearby.
