Lithuania's most popular seaside resort – summer capital with 18 km beaches, famous 470 m pier, and Amber Museum.
Palanga is Lithuania's oldest seaside resort, mentioned since the 13th century as an important trading center. Count Feliksas Tiškevičius transformed Palanga into an elegant resort in the late 19th century, building a Neo-Renaissance palace complex with an Amber Museum and a park designed by French landscape architect Édouard André.
Palanga is Lithuania's summer capital, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Basanavičius Street is a pedestrian artery with restaurants, bars, attractions, and a Ferris wheel (40 m – tallest in the Baltics). The 470-meter pier, built in 1892, is the most popular spot for sunsets. The Amber Museum, housed in Tiškevičius Palace (1897, architect Franz Schwechten) in Birutė Park, has one of the world's largest amber collections – 28,000 exhibits, of which 15,000 contain insect, spider, or plant inclusions. The park (100 ha) was designed by French landscape architect Édouard André.
