History Museum of Lithuania Minor

A museum in Klaipeda's Old Town presenting the history and culture of the Lithuania Minor region. The exhibition covers the region's development from Prussian tribes to the 20th century.

The History Museum of Lithuania Minor operates in Klaipeda's Old Town and is the principal institution researching and presenting the history of Lithuania Minor – the historic region between the Nemunas River and the Baltic Sea. The museum exhibition tells the story of Prussian tribes, the Teutonic Order era, the Kingdom of Prussia period, the culture of Lietuvninkai, and the dramatic changes of the 20th century. Special attention is given to the annexation of the Klaipeda region to Lithuania in 1923 and the fates of the region's inhabitants during World War II. The museum preserves rich ethnographic collections, photographic archives, and documents. It is an indispensable source for understanding the distinctiveness of western Lithuania.
