Samogitian Museum Alka

The main museum of the Samogitia region in Telsiai, presenting Samogitian history, language, culture, and ethnographic heritage. The museum is named after the ancient sacred place – Alka.

The Samogitian Museum "Alka" is the main museum of the Samogitia region, operating in Telsiai since 1932. The museum's name derives from Alka Hill – an ancient Samogitian sacred place. The exhibitions present Samogitian history from prehistory to the present day, with special emphasis on Samogitian identity, language, and customs. The museum preserves rich archaeological, numismatic, ethnographic, and art collections. Separate exhibitions are dedicated to the Christianization of Samogitia, the history of the Samogitian Duchy, and local folk art. The museum collections comprise over 70,000 exhibits. "Alka" actively participates in Samogitian cultural life, organizing traditional celebrations, exhibitions, and scholarly conferences.
