The Hill of Crosses Information Center operates near one of the most famous and unique sacred places in the world – the Hill of Crosses, located in the Siauliai district. On a small hillock stand over 200,000 crosses, crucifixes, wayside shrines, and rosaries, placed here by pilgrims and visitors from around the world. The tradition of placing crosses dates back to the 19th century and is associated with Lithuanian national and religious resistance. The Soviet authorities attempted to destroy the hill with bulldozers several times, but the crosses always reappeared. Pope John Paul II visited here in 1993. The information center presents the hill's history, symbolism, and pilgrimage tradition. It is one of the most emotionally impactful places in Lithuania.
