Nemunas Delta Regional Park
The Nemunas delta is one of the most important bird habitats in Europe. Spring flooding turns the delta into a huge lake where thousands of migrating birds stop.
Nemunas Delta Regional Park, established in 1992, encompasses the lower Nemunas and its delta – one of the most important wetlands in Europe. In spring, when snow melts, the delta is flooded and becomes a huge lake where hundreds of thousands of migrating birds stop. Visitors can observe ospreys, swans, cranes, and rare ducks. Rusnė Island is the largest river island in Lithuania, with a distinctive way of life and fishing traditions. The town of Šilutė and the Ventė Cape ornithological station are nearby. The delta is a Ramsar Convention protected wetland.
