Aukstaitija National Park is the oldest and one of the most beautiful protected areas in Lithuania, established in 1974 in northeastern Lithuania. The park territory contains 126 lakes, the largest being Kretuonas and the deepest being Tauragnas (60.5 m), the deepest lake in Lithuania. Ladakalnis hill is a legendary viewpoint offering panoramic views of six lakes. The park preserves authentic Aukstaitija villages with wooden houses, including Ginučiai watermill and Stripeikiai beekeeping museum. It is an excellent destination for hiking, kayaking, and nature observation.
