Kaunas Lagoon Regional Park, established in 1992, encompasses the Kaunas Reservoir (Kaunas hydroelectric reservoir) and its surroundings. The Kaunas Reservoir is the largest artificial body of water in Lithuania (63.5 km²), created in 1959 by damming the Nemunas. On the shore stands Pažaislis Monastery and Church – one of the most beautiful Baroque architectural ensembles in Northern Europe, hosting an annual music festival. The park offers water sports – sailing, yachting, kayaking. There are also beaches, nature trails, and wildlife observation platforms.
