Regional Park

Nemunas Loops Regional Park

The park encompasses the largest Nemunas loops – the river winds here between high slopes and hillforts. Punia hillfort is one of the most impressive in Lithuania.

Nemunas Loops Regional Park, established in 1992, protects one of the most beautiful stretches of the Nemunas, where the river makes huge loops between high slopes. Here stands the famous Punia hillfort – one of the tallest and most impressive in Lithuania, associated with the legendary duke Margis. The slopes offer breathtaking views of the Nemunas bends. The park includes the town of Balbieriškis, several hillforts, and old churches. Wildlife includes moose, roe deer, foxes, and birds. The park is suitable for hiking, cycling, and peaceful recreation by the Nemunas.
