Christ's Resurrection Church in Kaunas
A monumental modernist church on Žaliakalnis hill, visible from any point in Kaunas. A symbol of Lithuanian freedom and faith.
Christ's Resurrection Church is a monumental modernist sacral building standing on Žaliakalnis hill in Kaunas. Construction began in 1934 according to architect Karolis Reisonas's design, but was left incomplete due to the Soviet occupation – the building was converted into a radio factory. Only in 2004 was the church finally restored and consecrated. It is one of the largest churches in Lithuania – 84 m long, 36 m wide, and 28 m high. The church terrace offers a unique panoramic view of Kaunas. The church has become a symbol of Lithuania's freedom struggle and revival of faith, with its white silhouette dominating the Kaunas skyline.
