Tytuvėnai Monastery and Church

The largest Bernardine monastery complex in Lithuania with a unique system of Way of the Cross chapels and a Baroque church.

Tytuvėnai Monastery and Church is one of the largest and best-preserved 17th-century monastery complexes in Lithuania, built by Bernardine (Franciscan Observant) monks. The complex consists of a Baroque church, monastery buildings, an enclosed gallery, and a unique Way of the Cross chapel system – 20 chapels arranged around the monastery courtyard. The church interior features ornate Baroque altars and valuable wall paintings. During the Soviet era, the monastery was closed and used as a warehouse. After the restoration of independence, restoration of the complex began. Today it hosts summer music festivals and cultural events.
