Church of St. Casimir
The first Baroque church in Lithuania, built by the Jesuit order. Named in honor of Lithuania's patron saint, St. Casimir.
The Church of St. Casimir is the oldest Baroque church in Lithuania and all of Eastern Europe, built in 1604–1618 on the initiative of the Jesuit order. The church is dedicated to St. Casimir, patron saint of Lithuania and youth. Throughout its history, it served as an Orthodox church, a Napoleonic warehouse, and an atheism museum during the Soviet period. After the restoration of independence, the church was returned to the Jesuits and restored. Its crown feature is the royal crown atop the dome, symbolizing St. Casimir's royal lineage. The church stands on Didžioji Street – the main artery of Vilnius Old Town.
