Church of St. Johns
Part of Vilnius University ensemble with the tallest tower in Vilnius Old Town (63 m). A church of Gothic origin, later rebuilt in Baroque style.
The Church of St. Johns is one of the most important sacral buildings in Vilnius, closely tied to the history of Vilnius University. The first church was built in 1387 during the Christianization of Lithuania, later rebuilt in Gothic, Renaissance, and finally Baroque style in the 18th century by architect Johann Christoph Glaubitz. The church bell tower – 63 meters tall – is the tallest structure in Vilnius Old Town, offering excellent panoramic views of the city. The interior retains 10 interconnected altars creating a unified Baroque composition. Today the church belongs to Vilnius University and is used for academic and cultural events.
