Oldest Samogitian town with Lithuania's only winter garden and Count Tiškevičius Palace.
Kretinga is one of the oldest towns in Samogitia, mentioned in 1253. The Tyszkiewicz counts built an ornate manor here with a winter garden – the oldest in Lithuania. The Franciscan monastery, founded in the 17th century, still operates and is one of the most significant in Samogitia.
Kretinga is one of the oldest Samogitian towns with a rich history. The main attraction is Tiškevičius Palace with Lithuania's only winter garden. The glass greenhouse (late 19th century) houses exotic plants and birds – a tropical oasis in the northern climate. The palace park is perfect for walks. Kretinga Museum, located in the palace, tells the story of Count Tiškevičius family and regional history. The Bernardine Monastery with church (17th century) is another architectural gem. Kretinga is a popular stop on the way to Palanga.
