Thomas Mann had a summer house here (1930–1932), and the Curonian Spit was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.

About

Nida is the largest settlement on the Lithuanian part of the Curonian Spit, a UNESCO-protected 98 km sand peninsula between the Baltic Sea and Curonian Lagoon (since 2000). Parnidis Dune reaches 52 m – one of Europe's highest, still shaped by the wind. A 13.8 m granite sundial (1995/2011) stands on the dune. In 1929, Nobel laureate Thomas Mann built his summer house here – now a museum. The spit is unique: from the dune's summit, both the sea and lagoon are visible. A 52 km cycling path crosses the entire Lithuanian part of the spit.
