Rumšiškės is a town by the Kaunas Reservoir, famous for the Lithuanian Open-Air Museum – one of the largest open-air ethnographic museums in Europe. The old part of Rumšiškės was flooded during the construction of the Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant in 1959, and residents were relocated.

Rumšiškės is a unique town by the Kaunas Sea (reservoir), famous for the Lithuanian Folk Life Museum. It is the largest open-air museum in the Baltics, covering 140 hectares with 180 authentic buildings from all four Lithuanian ethnographic regions – Aukštaitija, Dzūkija, Suvalkija, and Samogitia. The buildings were transported from various parts of Lithuania and reconstructed in their original form. The museum demonstrates traditional crafts – weaving, blacksmithing, pottery. Most popular events are Shrovetide (February–March) and Midsummer (late June). You need at least 3-4 hours to explore the museum.
