Rumšiškės is a town by the Kaunas Reservoir, famous for the Lithuanian Open-Air Museum – one of the largest open-air ethnographic museums in Europe. The old part of Rumšiškės was flooded during the construction of the Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant in 1959, and residents were relocated.

It is the largest open-air museum in the Baltics, covering 140 hectares with 180 authentic buildings from all four Lithuanian ethnographic regions – Aukštaitija, Dzūkija, Suvalkija, and Samogitia. The buildings were transported from various parts of Lithuania and reconstructed in their original form. The museum demonstrates traditional crafts – weaving, blacksmithing, pottery. Most popular events are Shrovetide (February–March) and Midsummer (late June). You need at least 3-4 hours to explore the museum.
